“This wasn’t fate,” Becky mumbled to herself, hardly raising her voice above a grunt. This was done to her by someone. They will cover the cost. Beneath her fatigue was a simmering fury that fueled the fire that kept her hands going. She was aware that although they couldn’t go back in time, they could ensure that the person who did it wouldn’t get away with it. In the dark chamber, Becky’s will was blazing.

Exhausted Vigil
A few hours later, Becky was sitting next to the recovery box, leaning against the wall. Although her body was exhausted, her thoughts would not stop. With heating pads and soft warmth on either side, the mother dog wriggled in her slumber. With a sad sense of pleasure that they had at least reached this point, Becky observed her. The room was quiet, a welcome change from the commotion that had been there moments before.
