The Struggling Young Couple

During one of my nightly visits, I observed Emma interacting with a young couple who looked fresh out of college. They fidgeted nervously, their unease evident as they skimmed through the menu. “It’s a bit pricey, huh?” one of them joked, attempting to lighten the mood. Emma, standing nearby, let out a dismissive snort before once again insisting on upfront payment, this time tacking on additional charges she offered no explanation for. The couple’s initial excitement quickly evaporated, replaced by a palpable embarrassment that lingered in the air like an approaching storm.

Extra Charges and Arrogance

Emma’s insistence on upfront payments was just the beginning. When the young couple dared to question the additional fees, she dismissed them with a patronizing reply: “It’s part of fine dining costs—get used to it.” With that, she turned on her heel, leaving them stunned and visibly embarrassed. I could sense their frustration, their urge to walk out, and the heavy weight of injustice that seemed to taint the entire atmosphere of the restaurant. Something had to change.
