Jess’s defiance
Jess remained unfazed, crossing her arms defiantly. “It was just a joke,” she said flatly. “People need to lighten up.” Dad’s face flushed, his temper straining at the edges. “This is not a joke, Jess,” he growled, his voice low and charged. “If Jason won’t deal with it, I will.” His words lingered in the air, heavy with unspoken threat. The tension snapped like a taut wire, and I could feel us teetering on the brink of something irreversible.

Jess’s Defiance
pleas for peace
Mom’s voice trembled as she tried to diffuse the tension. “Can we all just take a moment to breathe?” she pleaded, desperation lacing her words. But no one was listening. Jacob’s tears began to spill, and that was all it took to push Dad over the edge. “Enough,” he bellowed, his voice cutting through the chaos like thunder. “If this doesn’t get resolved, I’ll handle it myself.” A heavy silence followed, thick with the weight of unspoken consequences.
