After securing her drink, Sarah flagged down a passing flight attendant. “Excuse me,” she said with a hopeful tone, “I need some help with… a hairy situation.” She gestured subtly toward the girl in front of her, whose long hair spilled over the back of the seat. “It’s invading my space, and she refuses to put it up.” The flight attendant offered a sympathetic smile. “Let me see what I can do,” she replied reassuringly before continuing down the aisle. Sarah exhaled, grateful for the brief moment of understanding amidst the bustling cabin.

The flight attendant returned and leaned in close to Sarah. “Maybe try asking nicely again? It’s worth a shot,” she suggested, her tone a mix of optimism and hesitation. Sarah frowned, feeling a wave of deflation at the suggestion. “Sure, thanks,” she replied, though she doubted a second polite request would change the girl’s response. As the attendant walked away, Sarah considered the advice. Perhaps a touch of kindness could still salvage her peace.
