As the afternoon arrived, the front door opened with the same excitement as when the children had hurried out that morning. Sarah hardly had time to get ready before they both started talking about their days at once. As with practically every day after school, Sarah was jumping between courses and attempting to keep up when it came time to complete their homework at the dining table.

Sarah eventually left the children alone and went to make dinner in the kitchen. Her sister’s name came up a second time when her phone rang as she was chopping some veggies. After 15 years of nothing, twice in a few hours. What was going on with her sister? Sarah wondered. Did she require assistance? Her phone kept ringing while she gazed at it, and the uneasiness only increased with each ring.
