The Disappearance
Emily recognized her opportunity to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the celebration when she realized Derek was nowhere to be seen. The atmosphere, full of unsaid inquiries and pitying glances, had grown intolerable. Since Derek was nowhere to be found, Emily sneaked out, desperate for some fresh air and a respite from the stuffy atmosphere of inquiry and silent criticism.

Emily took sanctuary in a neighboring hotel and sat by herself, thinking back on the hectic day. What was supposed to be a celebration of love turned into a public spectacle of her humiliation. She felt empty because of the juxtaposition between the harsh reality and her day’s aspirations. She had a blank canvas to contemplate on in the impersonal and silent hotel room, away from the critical gaze of the wedding guests.
