My spouse appeared to be unaware of his mother’s slide since he was too preoccupied with the financial situation. Despite the impending personal storms, he congratulated himself for keeping the family afloat. He was too preoccupied with balancing figures that didn’t add up to notice her social issues. His ignorance amused me; he was so engrossed in one disaster that he failed to notice the other one gently unraveling next to him. It was poetry in motion, a flourishing practice of deception.

an uphill battle
It was almost pathetic to see him strive to bring our finances under control. Unaware that I was the one pulling the strings, he spent endless hours scouring bank accounts for explanations. Every time he tried to balance our finances, he was frustrated by the ongoing opposition from unidentified forces. It was an odd sight: his despair growing while, without his knowledge, my covert influence caused his fundamental basis to slowly crumble.
