Clara wasn’t having any of Emily’s attempts to dismiss Johanna’s behavior. She began to enumerate all the instances in which Johanna had made an extra effort to complicate Emily’s life. She disclosed that she had unintentionally spilt wine on Johanna’s immaculate white gown, which Johanna had worn in an unsuccessful attempt to overshadow the bride.
