Thomas remembered from his police training about different kinds of animals, and how more often than not, they are more afraid of us than we are of them. Thomas could sense the bear’s stress and knew this amazing and dangerous animal needed to be given space. He remembered this important fact because his grandma had always told him this when he was a kid.
