Whoever took part in planning a wedding knows just how stressful the whole ordeal is. There is a lot of pressure on the future husband-and-wife while they plan what will be one of the happiest days of their lives. It makes sense that they would want everything to run smoothly. Everything from a perfect venue, food, flowers, cake, centerpieces, and music, the list can seem never-ending. While all this is a lot, there are some people who decide to take the wedding planning to a whole new level. One example is this bride. She sent out strangely specific dress code requirements for her wedding guests. The catch is, each person was instructed to dress according to their weight. Yes, you read that right. It didn’t take long for the interesting dress code to leak onto Reddit and go viral. The unnamed “bridezilla” started getting some serious backlash from people online about the dress code.
It all began when the future bride posted to her a Facebook a certain message addressing her guests. Not long after, the post got leaked to Reddit. The bride wrote a long message in the post meant for her upcoming destination wedding in Hawaii.
It’s a pretty normal thing for a bride to address the guests of her wedding, right? Well, the part that isn’t so normal is demanding from the guests to spend thousands of dollars on a strict and very specific dress code.
A Real Bridezilla
We all know that brides sometimes assign their bridesmaids a certain color or gown to wear. Even if the bridesmaids aren’t too fond about the color or gown, they still roll with it to make the bride happy on her wedding day.
In our story, however, we’re not talking about having to wear a frilly over-the-top gown in the bride’s favorite vibrant color. Here, the real-life bridezilla has planned out an exact dress code for all the guests attending her wedding – not just the wedding party.
For Visual Purposes
The beginning of the post started out innocently enough, with the bride greeting the wedding guests. After that, she announced, “Who’s ready for Hawaii 2019?” Then, she went on to say that despite the fact that the wedding was still a year and a half away, she wanted to discuss an important matter. This matter was, naturally, the dress code.
She went on to explain that the reason she was addressing the matter so far in advance was to ensure her guests will have plenty of time to “find and pick out something nice.” Another reason she stated that contributed to the specific dress code was because it will create an “incredible visual effect” which is intended for the “synchronized dance” that was planned for the reception.
You might think by now that the weirdest part of this story was the bride instructing her guests what to wear to her wedding. Well, we’re here to tell you that’s only the beginning. What really caused the strong reaction is the inappropriate way she decided to go about it.
In the post, she divided the dress code into five separate categories: women who weigh 100 to 160 lbs, men who weigh 100 to 200 lbs, women who weigh 160 lbs and over, and men who weigh 200 lbs and over. It doesn’t end there. She even assigned a dress code for the children who will be at the wedding. Aside from instructing guests what to wear to your wedding being odd, the fact that it’s based on their weight is straight-up offensive.
Suede & Velvet Only
Let’s begin, shall we? The women weighing between 100 and 160 lbs were told to wear a velvet green sweater coupled with orange suede pants. To top it off, they had to wear Louboutin heels that cost about $700 a pair. Naturally, the bride was sure to emphasize that the women in this category buy only red Louboutins, so that when they “spin and lift” their feet, “the effect will amaze you”. We aren’t entirely sure what that actually means, but alright.
As difficult as it is to believe, it doesn’t end there. To complete this…look, these guests had to wear a scarf. But not just any scarf, oh no. They had to wear a cashmere designer scarf made by Burberry. We feel like we should mention that a scarf like this can cost a good few hundred dollars.
Now onto the men. Male guests weighing between 100 and 200 lbs were instructed to wear a different outfit altogether. While their outfit will cost significantly less, it’s just as weird.
The outfit consisted of a purple fuzzy jacket (emphasis on the purple), a soda hat, and all-white sneakers. To complete this look, the bride requested them to bring some “plain glow sticks”.
Decked Out In Black
Now onto the women who weigh 160 lbs and over. For these women, the bride kept it pretty simple. They had to wear only black. A black sweater and black pants. The bride made sure to mention that the outfit could be made of “any material”.
To finish off this look, the females needed a pair of black heels. We can’t decide if it’s more offensive that the bride made a separate category for women over 160 lbs or the fact that she required they wear nothing but black.
Camouflage For You
In case you were worried, yes, there are even weirder dress code instructions from the bride. For men who weigh 200 lbs and over, their outfit was just as strange as the rest.
We can’t even begin to guess why, but for this group, the bride asked for them to wear an entire camouflage outfit coupled with a pair of black sneakers. The only response we have to this is: why?
It only makes sense that the bride include all her guests, right? Well, the children who will be attending the Hawaii wedding were instructed to wear all red. To clarify, she specified that the outfit must be “red from head to toe.”
To make sure the instructions were clear, the bride reminded the guests that the kids will be the ones who “form the shape of a heart” during the synchronized dance. Due to the fact, the outfits will “need to be true red, not blood orange.”
Seeing as the dress code was clearly not enough for the bride, she felt the need to make it clear that aside from the “required” outfits, the guests needed to bring a change of clothes that were “formal attire” for after the mysterious dance.
Despite the fact that the bride doesn’t specify the instructions for this part, the one thing she does add is that the venue is “extremely upscale”. Meaning that they needed to look their “absolute best”.
In case you think this entire dress code is a joke, we feel the need to tell you that the bride was very clear at the end of the message about how serious she was.
She decided to give the guests a polite warning: “if you look like trash, so will we”. After that, she goes on to list the proper budget for the guests to invest in the attire which is “at least $1,000.” She continues by saying “This wedding is 24k themed for a reason.”
Surprisingly, the bride seemed to realize that the guests would probably feel kind of overwhelmed by the dress code. Not to mention the amount of money they would need to spend on it.
Due to the fact, the bride made it very clear that there was no excuse not to follow the dress code guidelines as the guests had a “year and a half to get working”. Of course, this is if she even has any guests left after she sent out this message.
We can all thank one of the brave guests for leaking the dress code to Reddit. We can only assume that the post was meant just for the people invited to the wedding. Well, the post got leaked and it went viral almost immediately.
It didn’t take long for the post to be shared well over 10,000 times and rack up thousands of comments from appalled Reddit users. Many commenters slammed the bride for “body shaming” her guests and called her things like “self-centered”. A few people paid attention to the actual colors that were required in the dress code.
It only makes sense that the bride’s friends would have something to say about the clothing guests were meant to wear to the destination wedding. One person showed other guests what an outfit would look like, and they were all not happy about it, to say the least.
Who can blame them, really? Not only are the colors random, the clothing expensive, but the wedding is in Hawaii of all places. Just in case you aren’t aware, Hawaii has warm weather just about all the time. Wearing a velvet sweater and corduroy pants in the heat would be an awful experience.
A Sort Of Follow-Up
It wasn’t long before the bride found out that one of her guests leaked the dress code. The first thing she did was take to Facebook to post a message addressing her invitees. This post was later shared on Reddit as well.
She wrote rather passionately, saying “I could not be more crushed, betrayed, or saddened…knowing someone went behind my back and made fun of me is one of the worst feelings”. She certainly wasn’t going to let the “snitch” get away with it. She warned them, “Boy, will you be paying”.
A Polygraph Party?
After this whole ordeal, the bride announced to her wedding guests that she was going to host a “polygraph party” in her house. The event was to use her “real polygraph test” which she bought for “$99 on Amazon” in order to figure out who leaked her dress code to Reddit.
She was sure to mention that the ones who wouldn’t make it to the special party would be “presumed guilty”.
If you were curious as to which polygraph she purchased, or you’re just looking to buy one yourself, this is the one she bought. Of course, she only bought the best of the best for this serious cause. She couldn’t buy just any polygraph and risk it not working. This mystery needed to be solved.
We should probably mention that polygraphs haven’t actually been proven to work, so just take that into consideration next time you throw a polygraph party. You know, cause that’s a normal thing people do.
In yet another post, the bride clarified that if there were people who weren’t happy about the dress code, that was okay.
The only thing they had to do was talk to her and if they wouldn’t want to be part of the synchronized dance, there were other ways to help. They could help the crew “clean up after dinner” or “contribute to the honeymoon”. The bride went on to say “Anything counts”.
Not Having It
When the bride posted this, some of her guests were simply not having it. One went so far as to post this lengthy comment expressing their feelings on the matter. They immediately declined the invite to the wedding when they heard about the dress code.
Honestly, wouldn’t you do the same in that situation? We know we would. Aside from the outrageous dress code and the huge expense involved acquiring those clothes, the bride wanted guests who weren’t in the dance to help clean up after the wedding. Who would ask that of their wedding guests? Really?
It only makes sense that the people of Reddit had plenty to say on the matter, and none had anything good to say. The comments for the original post were overflowing by this point. People commented just how ridiculous this entire story is.
Some even wondered how could this story possibly be a true one as it was so far-fetched. Well, it is real. Aside from the doubt, many commenters were furious about the weight separation and the bride’s accusatory approach to the ‘snitch’.
Clearly, Reddit users have a good amount of free time on their hands. One person decided to figure out just how the bride’s genius color scheme would look all together, so they created this brilliant mock-up to really get the picture.
We think the hilarious diagram speaks for itself. There are a few obvious highlights, however. The “Pepsi” hat has made many people giggle uncontrollably, along with the ridiculous division the bride made according to guests’ weight.
Naturally, the bride-to-be had plenty more to say, mostly towards the people who have made fun of her. As soon as she found out her post went viral online, she went on a rant full of swear words and all caps.
Her attempt at justifying her decision was by saying she and her husband were both “certified spiritual healers.” Of course, the irony is that if she were an actual spiritual healer, she would definitely know how to handle all that scrutiny a whole lot better.
In her lengthy rant, the bride added the reasoning behind the color schemes. You’d think there is some logic behind it all, right? Well, if you think that then you couldn’t be more wrong. Explaining the reason she chose those colors, she said that the “black and camouflage outfits” are meant to represent the devil and the guests will “shoo away”.
While that’s all fascinating, it doesn’t excuse the fact that she specifically requested the overweight guests to wear these particular colors. It goes without saying that people had some thoughts on the matter.
It was as if this bride was digging herself a hole in the ground that just kept getting deeper and deeper as the story progressed. Separating her guests by weight was not enough, clearly. She needed to have a so-called ‘logical’ reason as to why she did so.
Well, to say she did not disappoint would be a lie. All the same, people all over the internet were dying to find out the outcome of this disastrous wedding. With the outrage and ridicule online, plus the guests getting angry, we can’t help but wonder if this wedding will happen.
The fact that the bride divided the guests by weight already was insensitive. That alone alienated her guests. However, as soon as she compared the so-called “overweight guests” to the devil that had to be shooed away, Reddit users had an absolute field day.
Whether she was trying to demean them or not, that’s the way it was perceived by everyone online. It looked like this bride could do nothing correctly. All the same, she was nowhere near done with all this. There was yet another thing that made people think twice about her.
Psychics Desensitization Chamber
The bride felt the need to add the fact that she had met her husband at a psychic desensitization chamber. Another way of phrasing this is simply saying: this is exactly why she isn’t just a conventional girl.
She also said this was the experience that led her to incorporate her “traditions and beliefs” into her wedding. That’s completely understandable if you ask us, only she should have gone about doing so differently than she had. All this brings us to the money situation. It turns out she also had a reason for that requirement.
On top of the ridiculous costumes, the bride wanted the guests to spend no less than $1,000 on their “regular” clothes for the wedding. You’re probably wondering what on earth she said to justify that one, right? Don’t worry, she included it in her public rant.
Apparently, the expensive clothing was supposed to “represent the riches” the couple hopes to come into later on in life. Yet again, there is nothing wrong with having symbolism incorporated into your wedding. The issue is forcing your entire guest list to do the same.
Truthfully, this whole ordeal boils down to awareness. The most fascinating part of the story is that this bride clearly wants her wedding to be absolutely perfect. All she wants is happiness and love, as the rest of us do, only she isn’t aware of the fact that the world does not revolve around her.
Money simply doesn’t grow on trees and spending as much money as she demanded on someone else’s wedding ($1,000 excluding the costumes and flights there and back) It’s absolutely not something that people do.
All this speculation brings us right back to the most important question: how will this wedding turn out? All we can do now is wait and see what happens when the wedding day arrives. We genuinely wish this couple nothing but the best, but we just hope they relax a little and stop putting other people down.
Most of all, we hope this bride will relinquish her reins and not force her wedding guests to spend all that money. Let’s put it this way, if she does go through with this, she might end up in a very small wedding. Is that really worth it for the “perfect wedding”?
If you thought this story was bad, wait until you hear about some of these other bridezillas! You’d think that a person’s wedding was more about spending the rest of your life with someone you love. Not so much about how grand or picturesque the wedding will look in all the photos.
One bridezilla, for instance, was looking to get free flowers. In fact, she contacted a florist and requested she do around 80 hours of work – for free. To top it off, the bride didn’t see any issue with this arrangement. This seems to be a pattern with some brides – the oblivion.
This story starts out rather innocently. The bride in question somehow gets the contact details for a florist. As one would expect, the florist quoted her price as she would with any other potential client.
The bride attached a photo depicting what kind of flowers she wanted for her wedding and what kind of style she was looking for. Being the professional she is, the florist was on board with creating the centerpieces with no problem. So far, so good, right?
This is where things start to get a little sticky if you know what we mean. Like the previous bride, this one had rather unconventional ideas about how wedding planning worked. As soon as a price was involved, the bride’s ears perked up as if she were in danger. She went on to ask the florist just why she would charge that amount of money on these flowers.
And again, being the professional she is, the florist graciously explained the reasoning behind the price (not that she needed to, really). In total, the amount of work she would need to do for the amount the bride wanted would amount to around 80 hours.
Ah, the mind of an entitled person… This bride was taken by surprise that the florist was actually taking money for her work. It’s something we all get confused about, no? That we need to pay for services and whatnot? At least, it looks like it’s a common issue with some brides… Maybe it’s just this bride who’s got it backwards.
In any case, the bride offered to exchange all the flower arrangements for “exposure” and “nice pictures” in return. Who needs to eat, right? Naturally, the florist was incredulous to this bride’s suggestion. She couldn’t believe this person was asking for free services. Not only that, but she wanted free flowers plus 80 hours of labor – all for free. Who does that? It seems to be that some brides don’t understand how people typically live. The last bride thought requesting such expensive clothing was normal, and then this one wants free services. All for their special day.
Like anyone would, the florist turned down the oh-so-generous offer from this bride. Instead, she told her where she might find other florists in the area. Not that any of them would agree to provide their services for no pay. If you ask us, the florist handled the situation very well.
It’s no surprise that the bride was annoyed by this ordeal. She already spent $10,000 on her wedding, why would she want to spend any more? The solution was obvious – free stuff! We can’t help but wonder how she handles paying for other things in life…
Whereas a lot of the time, the bride ends up throwing a tantrum or even calling off the wedding, at times, the groom gets fed up. One bride, who shall remain nameless, had an even worse situation, believe it or not. As the wedding planning was going on, her sister told her she was pregnant. Wouldn’t you be overjoyed if it were your sister?
Well, this bride was not happy about this turn of events. In fact, she was angry. So much so that she removed her sister from the wedding. Why? Well, she didn’t want her pregnant sister to ’cause problems’ with dress alterations and whatnot. That’s not all, however. The bride went on to complain about how this pregnancy was so poorly timed.
You wanna know the worst part about this story? Well, the sister in question had actually been trying for a baby for several years before this pregnancy happened. And yet, all the bride could think about was the inconvenience of it all and dress alterations. How sweet is that?
A few months later, the bride was with her mother and the wedding planner. Right in the middle of their meeting, the mother receives a phone call she had to answer. She ended up speaking on the phone for the rest of the meeting, and when she was done, she looked like she had been crying. As it turns out, the bride’s sister miscarried.
Turn Of Events
Without thinking twice, the bride then says that her sister can be back in the wedding as she was no longer pregnant. As soon as the words came out of her mouth, her mother froze. In a soft and deadly voice, the mother informed the bride that she will no longer pay for the wedding.
As you’d expect, the bride immediately became hysterical, looking horrified. She started shrieking and waving her arms, screeching questions at her silent mother. As the mother left with a perfectly straight back, her screaming daughter was trailing behind her helplessly.
Canceled By The Groom
After this whole meltdown, the wedding planner was let go. But don’t worry, she was completely fine with the entire arrangement. She had absolutely no interest in planning this bridezilla’s wedding. In fact, she fully agreed with the mother.
Less than twenty-four hours later, the next day, in fact, the whole wedding was officially canceled. You might be wondering who ended up calling it off. This comes as no surprise if you ask us. It turns out that the groom himself canceled the wedding.
No One Wears White
It seems like there is an abundance of bridezilla stories all over the internet, and while we can’t help but roll our eyes at these dramatic brides, they are quite entertaining. With that said, let’s move on to the next bride’s tantrum, shall we?
One person took to the internet to vent about their frustration with a bride. This bride was marrying the poster’s brother-in-law. From the very beginning, these two ladies didn’t get along. As the wedding planning began, things just got worse from there.
This poster was extremely close to her soon-to-be-married brother-in-law. In fact, he was one of her very best friends, for years. Perhaps the future bride became jealous of her, or maybe she had no real reason behind her animosity towards the poster.
We might never know where this relationship went sour, or why, but what we do know is that it didn’t get any better from there. In fact, things only went downhill from this point on.
When the time came, the groom asked his sister-in-law to be one of his groomsmen at the wedding. Despite the fact that it wasn’t traditional, none of the groomsmen minded at all. In fact, they were all for it.
You can imagine how that impacted the relationship between the future bride and the poster. It goes without saying that things just kept getting worse from that point on.
As you might have guessed by now, this future bride was somewhat problematic. About two weeks after the groomsmen were picked out, the poster got a call from the groom. The groom told her his fiance wasn’t comfortable with the arrangement. Especially the stag night.
We should probably mention that the poster’s husband would be at the stag night as well. In any case, the bride worried that a woman being at the outing would cause problems. So, the poster simply let it slide since she had no interest in causing problems.
Fast forward to the wedding. It started out smoothly, as one would expect. However, at the reception, the groom approached his sister-in-law. He had a mortified look on his face, and she couldn’t understand why. She then saw the bride glaring at her. The groom then asks her if she happens to have anything else to change into.
It turned out that the bride thought her dress was too white. To clarify, the dress was floral with bits of white peeking through. The bride was so angry about this that she insisted on the poster to either change clothes or go home and get something else to wear. The poster just left the wedding and didn’t come back. Who can blame her?
Now, this bride took insensitive to a whole new level with her demands. She had a very clear vision of her wedding in mind. Everything was perfectly planned out down to the last detail. Well, everything aside from this.
Posting a question online, the bride had somewhat of a dilemma she didn’t know how to go about. She wanted to know whether it would be so bad if she fired her maid of honor. You might be wondering why on earth would she want to? And why?
This might be slightly tough to explain. More so due to the fact that this bride was completely unaware of her insensitivity. The reason she wanted to kick her MOH out of the wedding party was since she had a baby three weeks earlier and still hasn’t lost the baby weight. Yes, you read that right. Three weeks.
The bride raged that the MOH still looked pregnant and wasn’t too confident that she would manage to lose the weight by the time the wedding came around. Another thing we should mention is that at this point, the wedding was three weeks away.
The one thing the bride was most worried about was this maid of honor not fitting into her dress as-is. She wanted to just replace her with someone who would fit into the dress as it was, without any alterations.
Seeing as the dress had been altered several times, the bride point-blank refused to get it altered again, even for her maid of honor. Wouldn’t you think that being the maid of honor would hold some significance to the bride? Apparently not. Anyways, our story doesn’t end there.
As it turns out, the maid of honor had a backup dress just in case she wouldn’t lose weight in time for the wedding. However, the bride was adamant on the specific dress she wanted her maid of honor to wear.
She point-blank refused the backup dress the maid of honor offered to wear. Not only that, but the bride was sure to clarify that she wasn’t ‘fat shaming’ the maid of honor. You know… While fat-shaming her… Makes total sense.
The bride didn’t stop there, oh no. She continued, saying she had ‘someone else’ in mind to take the maid of honor’s place. In fact, she felt compelled to add that the maid of honor had promised the bride she’d fit into her dress in time for the wedding.
Clearly, having the dress altered several times was not a line the bride was willing to cross, even for her big day. So much so that she would rather kick her maid of honor out and replace her with another, skinnier person! How lovely.
Of course, the internet had plenty to say about this story. As you’d expect, none of what they said was good. People from all over the internet shared their two-cents on this story.
Going through the comments and different responses on social media is at least a little reassuring. It’s good to see that almost everyone is defending the new mother. If you ask us, you can practically feel the rage of the readers through the computer screen.
